D.O.B: April 1/2011
Color: Red
Size: Large (When grown)
Sex: Female
ID Number: CA1122
Date Rescued: July 18/2011
Approximate Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback (Mix)
About Me: Natasha is learning everything about life right now, it is a huge time in her life-skills development and we are learning very quickly what this big world is all abut. She is one smart puppy, and learns everything very quickly (including bad habits - if you let her). She has learnt to be housetrained, and let you know when it is time. She has been crate trained, she sleeps in her crate over night, is crated when alone and also has quiet time in her crate during the day so she does not associate it with being being left alone. She is fantastic on her leash, and sitting at every corner before we cross the road, but like any puppy is easily distracted. But most importantly we are working on socialization, she is getting a grasp on good manners (like not nipping) but it is a work in progress. We are still learning how to meet dogs and people without getting too excited.
Natasha is an amazing dog with so much potential, in good hands she will make an excellent dog. However she has some traits that make it important that she is adopted into an experienced home only. She is stubborn, very intelligent, courageous, and can be bossy (not aggressive), if she were to be put in a non-experienced home she would certainly not thrive. She is a challenge, like any puppy, but with the right owner she will be one outstanding dog.
Requirements for adoption: She needs and experienced dog owner, or a new dog owners willing to go to training to teach themselves about raising a puppy.
Natasha is up-to-date with routine shots, microchipped, treated for worms and fleas, has learned basic obedience, crate trained, house trained and sterilized.

Approximate Breed: Alaskan Husky
Approximate D.O.B: August, 2007 Current Weight: 45lb Date Rescued: August 6th, 2011 Adoption Number: CA1125
Reason Rescued: Kuma was rescued after her owner was evicted and left her along with 36 other Huskies tied to trees. At one point she was apparently a mushing dog, when the company went bankrupt they asked a worker to drown her and the other dogs. Instead he took them all home, but quickly it became too many dogs to care for. Kuma is a sweetheart, its about time she gets started on the life she should of had from the start!
Her foster mom says; "Here's Kuma in her new foster home. She's the husky rescued this weekend and I think possibly the sweetest dog ever. She doesn't bark, doesn't chew, ignores the cats entirely and gets along fine with my dogs. She doesn't climb furniture which I'm sure is a bit foreign to her. She did try to climb the low table in the yard. Leash walking is new so she weaves, a lot. But she's light and the pulling is not terrible. She's very submissive and doesn't eat very much but this morning she was happy enough to wag her tail, which was great because she's not a wagger. If dogs are too rowdy around her, she's a bit scared and scampers off, but doesn't cower or hide, so that's good. She had one accident in the house this morning, but that's my fault, I'm still learning to read her signals. She pees and poos outside just fine. She'll make someone an amazing dog! This girls is just too endearing."
Requirements for adoption: Breed experience
Kuma is up-to-date with routine shots, microchipped, treated for worms and fleas, heart-wormed tested negative, has basic training, crate trained (loves! her crate), house trained and spayed.
Post adoption update: "Hi everyone, A short message to let you know that Kuma is a terrific and extraordinary dog. She is calm, gentle, get along very well with my cats (she protects the oldest and plays with the youngest), walk well on leash, plays nice with other dogs at the park, great in the car etc She will always be with us and we will always take care of her. She will never be tied up to a tree anymore! I want to thank you all for your help through the adoption procedure and congratulations for the great job you do." |

Approximate Breed: Bull Mastiff (Mix)
Approximate D.O.B: June 16th, 2011 Current Weight: 50lb Date Rescued: July 20th, 2011 Adoption Number: CA1121
Reason Rescued: Our newest, squishy faced arrival! 4 week old mastiff mix, sold as 8 week old pug mix. Owners surrendered after having her for one day, and then having to hospitalize her for one week because of gastro and lethargy. She got sick from being sold before she was weaned. They were not prepared to take on a 4 week old puppy, or a breed that needs experienced owners especially as she has been deprived of litter socialization/bite inhibition.
The 'breeder' refused to show them the house, or her parents. Again, another case of people using animals to profit and neglecting their best interest. Thanks to kijiji.ca for allowing breeders like this to continue to exist by facilitating the selling of back yard bred puppies on their website. Please let Kijiji know this is not right, and has to end.
Annie's foster mom says; "Annie is a spunky girl, despite a rough start. She was sold at 3-4 weeks over the internet as an 8 week old pug mix. She loves sleeping in piles of sheep skin with her head propped up. We use a rolled up t-shirt. Sometimes she wedges herself under my dresser, she packs herself under there like a sardine in a can and goes to sleep. She likes to sleep by herself, and sleeps most of the night and will only wake up if she needs something. She is playful and energetic and has recently learned how to run on her short stubby legs. It is so comical to see her run! She lets out little noises of excitement when she does. She should be placed in an environment with another dog or cat – she is not one that should be left alone. She would be ideal for someone who is active as she is an outdoor dog and has the time to meet her grooming and hygiene needs. She needs to be in a place where she can run outside off leash, and with someone who can be home with her regularly at least until she gets a little older. She can be stubborn and would do well with a more experienced owner who has the time and patience to train her. She hasn’t been around children yet. She loves to eat, and has recently discovered that it is fun to climb into our big dogs dish to see if there are any kibbles left. She is quite the snuggle bear after a play session with our older puppies. Currently at night she sleeps in our room in her kennel with a sheepskin, rolled up tshirt to prop her head up, a little clock and an hot water bottle (we have an air conditioner in our room) . Would highly advise to continue crate training with her as she is proving to be a superstar in her kennel at night.
Follow Annie while she is learning all about the world, and her foster mom is keeping you very up-to-date on Annie's adventures! http://littledoginabigcity.blogspot.com/ |

Approximate Breed: Golden Retriever
Approximate D.O.B: March, 2006 Sex: Male
Date Rescued: July 28th, 2011 Adoption Number: CA1124
Reason Rescued: Bruin was able to find a home despite being 5 years old, already having two hip surgeries and a history of epilepsy. This lucky pup sure got a second chance at life and landed in a big family who he get to play ball with until he's tierd (which is never). He is thriving in his new home. |

Date Rescued: January 2011 Date Adopted: July 2011 by his foster home
Reason Rescued: Gable is a sweet, 3-year-old Boston Terrier who has grown up with a family who can longer take care of him. He's a suburb specimen of the breed—a gorgeous, playful terrier—at 30 lbs he's a little larger than usual, giving him a very manly, handsome look (hence his gentleman-ly name). If he could write you a dating profile, Gable would tell you he likes belly rubs, car-rides, and long walks on the beach (or any activity near water— he loves swimming!). You don't need to wine and dine him though, this man enjoys quiet nights at home (he's very well-behaved at home and is not usually loud) and he's happy just watching TV with you (Gable actually watches the TV, he gets very into it, it's very funny!). He's very affectionate and well-trained, able to sit, lie down, and shake on command, and all he wants in return is a dedicated owner. Gable loves other dogs, but would prefer a home without cats.
Gable is up-to-date with routine shots, treated for internal and external parasites, microchipped, house trained and neutered. |

Date Rescued: July 2011 Date Adopted: July 2011
Reason Rescued: Luna is an interesting mix of Standard Poodle and Australian Shepherd, she holds strong characteristics of both breeds but needs regular grooming as she has a poodle coat. She is a more energetic dog, like an Australian Shepherd and would do well in an active household where she is exercised regularly. She is fantastic with children of all ages, even if they are hanging off her ears and pulling her tail, she tolerates it very well while the parents teach their children respect for sentient beings. She is very respectful of cats, and just ignores them, she is currently fostered with 3. She is great with other dogs, and is currently fostered with a rowdy young male puppy who keeps her active and can be a little pushy about wanting to play. She plays very well with him, and tells him off very politely when he is being not so polite with her. She would make an excellent family dog, or an excellent addition to any household. She can be reactive to other dogs on leash, but will settle once she meets them nose-to-nose she does need leash training and would do well with basic training. Until she learns to respect the collar and leash, and handler behind both, she is being walked with a Halti and is doing well. Ideally a home with dog experience, or first time owners who are willing to go to training to teach themselves about how handle dogs and then teach Luna a few things along the way. She would also excel in advanced training as she is one smart pup with a hell of a will to learn!
Luna is up-to-date with routine shots, microchipped, treated for worms and fleas, crate trained, house trained and spayed.
Post adoption update: We absolutely love her! I bring her everywhere...honestly, we have trouble going anywhere WITHOUT her. She rocks! |

Reason Rescued: Little Lady was rescued from a back yard breeder, but thankfully her breeding days are over and she can now start the life she should have had from the start. She is an absolute doll, she is very quiet and respectful. She has great people manners and is not overly friendly, but will approach you with her wiggling bum (to make up for her tail being docked). She is great with cats, dogs, children but a little weary of new men. Her favourite sleeping place is right next to where ever you happen to be. Once you get to know her, she has a lot of love to share with you. The key to her heart is squeaky toys, oh boy does she love to play with them! She would make an excellent addition to an active family, or a calm family and would be a great first time dog for new dog-owners.
Little Lady is up-to-date with routine shots, microchipped, treated for worms and fleas, has basic training, crate trained, house trained and to be spayed. |

Date Rescued: April 16th, 2011 Date Adopted: June, 2011
Rescue Story: Stewart was abandoned at The SPCA because the person who bought him did not ask his landlord if it was ok. Stewart was a fantastic puppy whose incredible good looks were only one of his many charms. Stewart loves to cuddle and go for long walks. He enjoys meeting new people and doing new things though will get easily distracted when lots of things are happening at once. Stewart was a good puppy in a put in a bad position because his breeder did not check with the buyers landlord, nore did they follow up on him after her was bought. The byer failed to ask permission from the propert owner, all no fault of this puppy but he was ultimate the one who paid for it with he was dumped at The SPCA. A cage is no place for a puppy to grow up, especially a breed that benefits from soclaization and training. Stewart was adopted to a home that unfortunately lost their previous pit-bull puppy due to a sickness the veterniarians were not able to save him from, despite the unfortunate circumstances, the void of their loss was filled with Stewarts endless affection and love.
Post Adoption Update: Just a quick update on Stewart. We are already in love with him! His stomach is back to normal. He is adjusting very well to his new home. The neighbours love him and he is making new friends at the dog park. He is getting as many cuddles as he wants! We often wake up in the morning and find him snuggled up at our feet, sneaky guy! He has been coming everywhere with my bf and me. We got him a harness for the car so we can roll down the windows safely. We brought him to the lakehouse up north and seeing another dog swim in the lake, jumped in! He quickly swam back to the dock and didn't go back though. We might try again with a life jacket to see if he prefers a little help floating. We took out the little boat to go for a ride and he wanted to come with!
We love that we can trust him alone in the house uncrated, as long as we put away the shoes.
The heat is a bit rough on him so we got some fans to try to help out and we kept his long walks for early mornings and late nights and that seems to work.
He might be missing Stevie a bit so I'm glad that my bf will be dogsitting an older golden retriever gal on Friday so he will have have a pal to hang out with for a week.
Today will be his first day at school. We enrolled him in the Companion Rookie course at Blue Ribbon. We're hoping he will learn new things, not to pull on his leash but most of all, have fun! He started to give the paw already!

Date Rescued: March 2011 Date Adopted: July 2011, by his foster home
Reason Rescued: As hard as it is to imagine, somebody decided they didn't want this adorable little puppy anymore so they got rid of him the same way you'd get rid of any other "object" you no longer want: they threw him in the garbage. Prince was found—at less than 8 weeks old—crying at the bottom of a garbage bin. Luckily he was saved before the garbage truck came by. How could anyone treat such a helpless, sweet, living creature like a piece of trash? Prince is a loving, friendly puppy who is looking for a great forever home. He's not yet housetrained (but he's willing to learn), but he gets along great with kids and other dogs. He appears to have some growth malformations in his back legs, probably from being kept in a cage or small box. It's too soon to tell what sort of trouble this may cause for him, but whatever it is we'll help him get through it.
Prince is up-to-date with routine shots, treated for internal and external parasites, microchipped, and neutered. |

Date Rescued: April 16th 2011 Date Adopted: July 2011
Reason Rescued: Stevie is a wonderful example of his breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier. True to his breed, he is smart, active and very affectionate. Stevie is very smart and thinks that praise is a wonderful reward for a job well done. He has all of his basic commands and is fully house trained. Stevie is calm and sweetly natured and would be a wonderful first dog but would also do well in a more experienced home that wanted to pursue obedience or agility training. Stevie's favourite things include napping, cuddling and fetching his ball. Stevie is a great running buddy and is very patient with children. He loves other dogs and cats.
See how well trained he is! http://vimeo.com/25293878
Stevie is up-to-date with routine shots, microchipped, treated for worms and fleas, has basic training, crate trained, house trained and neutered.
Post adoption update:
Hi Caroline!
Bentley is doing fantastic! We are keeping him busy with tons of walks, runs and trips to the doggy park to play with all his new friends. We've met many dogs in the neighbourhood and Bentley is very sociable and well-behaved with all of them.
Our kitten, Fitch has come to love Bentley very much! In the mornings, he runs to Bentley and gives him "head-butts" to say good morning. They like to chase each other around the house. Our other cat, Abby, is now curiously looking at Bentley, but she still doesnt like to be anywhere near him. We know that this isnt because of Bentley, she is just the kind of cat that takes a long time to get used to change (shes snobby :)). We are working on Bentley's "nibbling", but he knows that he shouldnt be doing this when we tell him "No".
We have decided to continue his crate training, so when we leave the house and go to bed, Bentley knows to stay in his crate. When we let him out, he is very happy but knows not to jump up or get too excited. He just waits patiently with his butt and tail wagging a mile a minute :)!
I dont have any questions for you at the moment. We've really been very lucky to have such a wonderful addition. I picked up the perscription for Sentinel last month and Bentley loves the tablet wrapped in cheese on the 1st of every month! We havent been giving him any table scraps because we dont believe in mouching and we are still working on this :).
We are looking to start some obedience classes in October with Bentley and would eventually like to enroll him in some ability classes once he passes the basic and advanced obedience (which I know he will with flying colours!)

Date Rescued: June 2010 Date Adopted: June 2011
Rescue Story: After one year in fostre care after being rescued from a pound, Broady has finally found the home he has been waiting for his whole time.
Broady's foster says: "Broady is by far one of the most affectionate and happy go lucky dogs around. His two favourite things to do is fetch his toys and cuddle up next to you on the couch. Broady's spunkyness is perfectly balanced with his charming affection and makes for a lovely little dog. He doesn't mind being left alone for the day as long as you don't mind being greeted with excitement and maybe once in a while holding him. He is curious and will always perk up and strut around if he knows you're taking him for a walk. As long as he can have a quick sniff he loves guests and warms up to people so easily everyone adores him. The perfect definition of a loyal and playful dog."
Post Adoption Update: "Joanne I love him, I love him. I LOVE HIM.
The first thing we did yesterday was play a lot. I figure that would keep him busy and happy. When he had enough he went to his bed. He did put the edge of the bed in his mouth. He didn't really chew on it, more like just held it. When we settled down for the evening he got onto my lap. It seemed he had trouble getting comfortable (not used to my lap yet...still wants yours?) But he did snuggle in beside me on the couch. I let him up on my couch but he is not allowed on the love seat or the leather chair (which he initially really seemed to like - so I nipped that one in the bud). When I was ready to go to bed I took his bed and put it right beside mine. He seemed to be excited about that. He got in it and settled in right away. He must have been tired because I still had to do my bathroom routine but he stayed in his bed. I think I will get another basket for under the stairs and keep the one now for the bedroom.
I have been very easy and slow approaching him because I don't want to startle or scare him. But today I couldn't hold back. He was sitting on the comforter on my end of the couch so I went over and got down on my knees and started talking to him. He came right down, wanted to cover me with kisses and then rolled over and exposed his belly for some scratches. I am kissing him a lot also. He doesn't seem to mind at all. I then pick him up and held him for awhile. He seemed more comfortable with that today. When we woke up he made the motion he wanted up on my bed. I didn't let him up but I sat on the edge of the bed and picked him up and he seemed very happy about that. Guess he just wanted some morning loving.
I do believe that the comforter next to where I sit on the couch is his new spot. He always goes to it. He can see out the front window there also. He doesn't appear too crazy about the pillow on the stairs, but will go there and bark when the neighbour gets too close to our house. He doesn't bark like crazy though. I like that. I told him ok, that its ok. That appeared to settle him.
When he looks at me I smile. I want him to know I am pleased looking at him. He is such a little man but there is something about him that makes him look regal. He is such a good looking boy. I love to see him come running down the hall with the toy in his mouth. His little legs are so cute and going so fast.
I must have tuckered him out because it looks like he is settling for a nap now.
You know Joanne. I know you don't normally keep fosters for as long as you kept Broady but he was with you that long because I was not ready for him yet. It was meant to be. Thank you so much for doing what you do."

Date Rescued: March 2011 Date Adopted: June 2011
Rescue Story: Thankfully an Eleven Eleven volunteer was working reception at a veterinary clinic the night Jack's previous owner called to euthanize him. At 6 years young, Jack's previous owners wanted to euthanize him because they were getting divorced and no one wanted 'the dog'. Eleven Eleven had other plans, we convinced him he still had a whole other life ahead of him and now was not his time to go, we took him under our wing determined to find him a family to love him for however long he will be around. A family to love, cherish, and play with him, the family he should have had from the beginning.
Post Adoption Update: "He and we are adjusting VERY well. He ate his supper last night and slept in our room on his new bed. He’s been VERY affectionate with my husband today. He did not bark at him at all yesterday when we came home and he approached him a few times during the evening but there has been a real difference today. He played with Pete and walked really well with him as well. He joined us at our daughter’s soccer game this morning and was more vocal about playing than with strange men.
The kids love him (as you can see in the attached photo) and are VERY happy that he is staying with us forever. He is the PERFECT first dog for our family and especially our girls.
We went shopping this morning for some cookies and new toys. We also had him weighed and he’s a whopping 80 lbs. We’ve put him on Orijen Poultry/Fish and he likes it. Our cat has been hissing at him but he doesn’t pay much attention to her at all, which is GREAT. He went for her food once and I said no and that was the end of it. He TRULY is a WONDERFUL dog and it’s sad to think of all he’s been through with his previous family."

Rescue Story: Bandit (now named Rollin) was dropped off at a clinic to be euthanized because his owner did not have the energy to take care of him anymore. Bandit's previous owner did not realize getting a puppy in his old age was not the best idea; unfortunately Bandit almost paid the price for his bad decision. Eleven Eleven had 48 hours to find a foster home and get him picked up from the clinic (which was over an hour outside of Montreal). Thankfully he was saved last minute and placed with a foster... who has fallen in love with him and chose to adopt!! He is a GREAT dog, they could not have even tried to find a better behaved pet. His previous owner lost out on this gem.
Post Adoption Update: "Here is a photo of Rollins (formerly Bandit) who I fostered then adopted from eleven eleven a year and a half ago. At just over a year old he was brought to the vet to be euthanized and we got him instead. He is the most incredible little guy and I feel so lucky every day that I ended up with him!"

Rescue Story: Shelby was surrendered to us by the SPCA because she was not doing well in the shelter setting. Shelby is a beautiful girl, inside and out. She loves attention and will ask you to pet her by pushing your hand with her snout. She's a little insecure from being moved around so much—not that we could blame her—so she needs a little extra assurance that you love her as well as an owner who can provide her with experienced, firm guidance to give her a better sense of security. She's a high energy, playful dog who loves to run and leap and would thrive in agility training or as a running partner! She learns tricks very quickly as she's eager to please. Shelby needed a very special type of home; one ready to give her the guidance and exercise she needs, as well as one without small children or cats. After 9 months in foster care her perfect family finally found her, and now Shelby walks the paths along the river in Ottawa with her new forever family!
Post Adoption Update: Shelby misses her foster family but she's already bonded with her new "mom" and is having a great time going for beautiful long walks along the Rideau canal. She's very happy in her new home and we're so happy she's finally settled where she belongs; with a forever family.

Rescue Story: Judah was born to Ginny into a foster home. Ginny was rescued by Anima Quebec from a hoarding situation where over 40 dogs were left outside tied to trees. Judah was born into an Eleven Eleven foster home only 2 days after his mother Ginny arrived in our care! He was adopted to a loveley hom in New Hampshire, and as you can see in the photo above (over a year later) is very happy in his new home with his new yellow labrador friend.
Post Adoption Update: "This is Judah (Husky mix named Sprite when you had him) and his best buddy Jordan (yellow lab). I adopted Judah on April 1st 2010, he is one of the husky Ginny's puppies. He has grown into a beautiful and social dog that is a huge hit everywhere he goes! I just wanted to thank you all so much, he's the love of my life and I am so glad that we found eachother!" |

Rescue Story: You wouldn't have thought you could find feral dogs in Montreal, but unfortunately some people here treat animals like we're living in a third world country. Eleven Eleven responded when we found out there was a group of dogs living in an industrial lot, made up of stray adults abandonned by an irresponsible owner and around 6 puppies who had grown up with absolutely no human contact. Rescued on just one of the freezing days we've faced this winter, other puppies were found frozen to death at the scene. Luckily, this puppy was caught and rescued. Mucci is a gorgeous, three-month-old, black brindle male. He looks like a little bear! His first day in a house he quickly found a comfy bed to go cuddle in. He's a calm, docile little boy whose settling in very well; getting used to dog bowls instead of puddles, kibble instead or bread and lard, and warmth instead of icy cold. He likes cats and other dogs, and although he's just getting used to people his experience as a responsible part of a pack has translated well to his attitude towards people: he listens well and is very polite.
Post Adoption Update: Mucci is thriving in his new home.

Rescue Story: Sonic was brought into the vet to be euthanized because he had low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), a common, easily treatable condition often seen in toy breed puppies, and something any owner who had done breed research before buying would have been aware of. Bought only days before, the owners decided it would be easier to euthanize this 1-lb puppy and get a new one than to put any extra money or time into treating little Sonic. Luckily we whisked him away and found this adorable ball of fluff an amazing home where he'll get lots of love and attention, and treatment for any issues that arise in his lifetime. Sonic is a great little dog—sweet, bold, and playful—and we're so happy his life has taken such a positive turn for the better!
Post Adoption Update: Sonic is thriving in his new home.

Rescue Story: Riley is a sweet dog who came to us scared of everything downtown had to offer—cars, trucks, new people—but with some great work by our amazing fosters and a bit more basic training, this intelligent dog came out of his shell and became more comfortable with the world. He needs lots and lots of exercise—he's an incredibly active, energetic dog, full of curiousity and smarts—and he learned every trick his fosters could teach him before he was adopted by an active family looking for a high energy dog to go running with. What a perfect match!
Post Adoption Update: Here's an update from Riley himself!:
Hello my name is Riley. I am a Labrador/Pointer mix and I was abandoned by my first family since my caretaker got pregnant and I used to jump on her to say hi.
Vivian accepted to take me as a foster dog. She lives down town and since I have not been socialized a lot I was afraid of everything…cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks, BYCICLES and especially men.
Then Carl and Jessica came to visit me to see if my energetic behavior wouldn’t be too much to handle for them. To my big surprise I found my soul mate…Jessica is as energetic as I am if not more and she adopted me on April 9th 2011.
When I arrived to her home her cats did not like me at all but they saw how nice I am and it took them 2 days to start rubbing themselves on me…I guess I’m an awesome cuddle buddy!!! Jessica takes me out 3 times a day and when she comes back from work she brings me to the woods next to her home. I get to run as fast as I want for hours. She also likes to run and teach me all kind of new tricks. My latest tricks are: Roll over and fetching a ball. She also registered me to a training class for rookies: “Blue Ribbon”. I met all kind of dogs like me that need training and I must say I am the best in my class…or at least that’s what Jessica tells me.

Date Rescued: February 18, 2011 Date Adopted: April 8, 2011
Rescue Story: You wouldn't have thought you could find feral dogs in Montreal, but unfortunately some people here treat animals like we're living in a third world country. Eleven Eleven responded when we found out there was a group of dogs living in an industrial lot, made up of stray adults abandonned by an irresponsible owner and around 6 puppies who had grown up with absolutely no human contact. Rescued on just one of the freezing days we've faced this winter, other puppies were found frozen to death at the scene. Luckily, Kendi was caught and rescued.
Kendi's foster mom did an amazing job of socializing this beautiful, chocolate-coloured pup; bringing her to work daily so she could meet all sorts of new people and dogs. She learned how to be a polite dog indoors and to love her feline foster sister. Thanks to this great work, Kendi was able to find a great forever home where she'll never again have to worry about finding enough food out on the streets.
Watch a video about Kendi's rescue and new life here.
Post Adoption Update: Kendi is doing well settling into her new home.
