moomoo-2 copy

Date Rescued: February 27, 2011   Date Adopted: March 19, 2011

Rescue Story: Lissa was rescued from Berger Blanc where she had been in a small, filthy, blanket-less cage for 46 days. Boy was she happy to leave! Lissa is a high-energy dog, full of love and excitement. She's very smart, quickly learning basic commands and even learning to high five and dance! She's always ready to greet everyone and loves running around or jumping into your arms. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her—how could you not?

Check out a video of her first time outside in more than a month here. She's now been adopted by a home that's been looking for the perfect dog for a while—and they've found her!

Post Adoption Update: Moomoo is doing amazing! She went from being in a cage, to an apartment in Montreal to having total freedom on the beach. We let her off leash during the day when we are home until sun down which is around 9:30pm. If she doesn't hang around the property, she comes back every 15 minutes or so for a treat and some pets to let us know she is doing fine. In her off leash time she enjoys playing with all the other dogs that run off leash in the neighbourhood, wrestling with Homer (a cat that looks just like her), and her absolute favourite activity is chasing chipmunks. Though she takes naps anywhere in the house during the day, at night she will only sleep in the bed and will tuck herself in before we even get there.

She gave us a bit of a scare the other week when we came home from work. She was hunched over with her tail between her legs and shaking. We took her to the vet and after numerous tests and x-rays, the vet discovered that she had only sprained her hip. Some painkillers solved the problem. However, the x-rays revealed that Moomoo's hips never grew into their sockets properly, probably courtesy of being caged at Berger Blanc for nearly two months without being let out. She is otherwise healthy and happy though. She has gained lots of weight, all muscle, about 16 pounds now. She is the most food driven dog I have ever seen, which makes it easy to teach her tricks. She is extremely smart and learns new tricks in about 30 minutes. Somehow, we still can't teach her to walk on a leash without pulling though! She thinks she is the boss and is very stubborn. We will be getting her enrolled in obedience school starting September at the kennel club here. They have 3 levels of classes and the highest one allows her to play flyball. We are hoping to have her trained for that by next summer.

We are so happy that we got Moomoo. She makes us laugh constantly and is always there for a good snuggle. Thank you so much for rescuing her and allowing us the pleasure of living with her.
