'Hobo Jo' - Stray cat in need of adoption

Hi Caroline, I’ve attached 2 photos of Hobo Joe, neither of which do him justice. We have made him a little house out of our cat cage with insulation on the outside underneath and around the entire outside. We then triple wrapped the outside in a heavy plastic tarp. Inside we have layers of blankets with the top blanket being wool. I have been running that blankets through the dryer almost daily just to get rid of any dampness. On colder nights I have been putting a couple of the mitten warmers we use and just put them under the first layer of blankets.

Our neighbourhood has come to know Joe and all have been spreading the word that he needs a home, but he’s been here since spring and we have found nothing. When he first arrived we posted pictures of him everywhere we could think but received no calls from anyone who lost him. We then posted more posters in those same places and at our local vet, but got nowhere.

Truly, to know him is to love him and anyone who remotely likes cats would love him. I wish we could take him in, but we just can’t. Thank you for help. Rest assured we will do everything we can for him ~ all he really wants is a warm lap, a belly rub and a forever home and so far we’ve fallen short on the forever home part.

Hobo Jo's history:

When he arrived at our doorstep this spring we actually ignored him and did not feed him for several weeks, hoping he would go back to his “home”. After a few weeks it was obvious he had been abandoned ~ he was taking refuge on our deck at night and since we live in a bungalow, he would sit in the window right beside my reading chair and meow and paw at the window. We thought for sure at the beginning he had a home so we did not feed him or encourage him to hang around. We continued not to feed him but after a time we saw he was getting skinnier and everyone in the neighbourhood was talking about this cat hanging around their windows. So we called the city, but they did not care (they don’t take care of cats), we put posters with his pictures up at the local vet, telephone poles and in every public area in Beaconsfield we could think of. After almost 2 months of him hanging around and coming and going, he showed up one day and had very obviously been in a bad fight. He had a gouge out of his tail, he had lost weight and his health was clearly deteriorating ~ he was so dehydrated that he was frothing at the mouth. We gave him water, food and cleaned the cut on his tail. We called the city again and they didn’t care, then we called the Valleyfield SPCA and they were full, we talked to our vet, but there was nothing they could do. We had every neighbour and friend trying to find a home for him. We called Gurdy’s and left messages a couple of times but got no return call. In fact, we have 2 rescue cats of our own, so knowing that we could not keep him we have made every effort to find him a forever home, but to no avail. So it really wasn’t about the “fun”, but rather the fact that we are animal lovers and could not stand to watch an animal suffer or die because he had been abandoned through no fault of his own. And yes, he probably thinks we are his saviors, because actually, I think we did indeed saved him, we just can’t keep another cat, although I would in a heartbeat if I could.
